Melzig, Daniela
Biography:
Daniela Melzig was born in Bielefeld (Germany) in 1968. In 1999 she obtained a diploma in Fine Arts and Design at Maastricht University of Applied Sciences (NL). At the Autonomous University of Applied Sciences Eupen (B), she obtained the European Teaching Certificate in Art and Design in 2009. Since 2020, she has been participating in an education programme for Interdisciplinary Dance Education at the Academy of Cultural Education Remscheid. She has been awarded numerous art prizes and various scholarships.
Daniela Melzig is at home in several fields of art: she produces multi-media performances, paintings on glass and graphics. The artist strives for light and transparency in all media, producing the unexpected diffuse as an enigmatic, fleeting thing. At times she stages herself, but not in order to be recognised as such by the viewers, but in order to dissolve herself as the ephemeral, the alien, only as an appearance in the light. The artist questions what seems calculable and rational in the real world: Daniela Melzig leads her audience into a world of the incomprehensible by setting a counterpoint to the calculating world of technology and fast-moving life with her oeuvre. With light and its effects, she takes her audience into the worlds of the imagination, the strange and the past, worlds where time seems to have stood still and where everything is nebulously transfigured and different.
Daniela Melzig has been represented by LDXArtodrome Gallery since 2023. Her works have been exhibited internationally many times and are in numerous collections.
